This is our time. The moment when Birmingham – supported by the largest local authority in Europe – becomes one of the world’s most successful, sustainable cities.
Our high-profile plans and initiatives make this a hugely exciting place to be; however, the most important goal for us is creating a brighter future for all our citizens. We want to change the lives of 1.1 million people, tackling inequality and driving economic growth. At the heart of these bold ambitions is our Finance department. And we’re making sure it’s up to the job.
For Finance to play an integral role in progress, it must be best-in-class: agile, innovative and proactive, as well as diverse and inclusive. So, we’ve created a 10-year vision to build the kind of department we need. The improvements have already begun, supported by fantastic partners such as CIPFA and a wealth of existing talent. We’re installing a best-in-breed Oracle Fusion system and embedding better, leaner processes. The next steps are to empower self-service and increase data and analytics, so the Council has the information to make the right decisions. Meanwhile, we’re improving financial management Council-wide and strengthening our resilience and financial grip through greater accountability. What does all this mean for you as a potential member of our team? The chance to work in an organisation with purpose and vision, where you’re trusted to make a difference.
Together, we can help make some incredible things happen, from HS2 to the 2022 Commonwealth Games. You'll have the opportunity to contribute and influence like never before - all while feeling valued and inspired. To really make sure this is the case, we offer a comprehensive induction spanning your first year. It means you'll have everything you need to help us achieve greatness. Get ready for a brighter, bolder Birmingham.
